About us
The practice was started in the early 1970's by Bill Wilkinson, a dentist with a keen interest in general anaesthesia. He gained a reputation as the dentist that nervous patients could come to and be treated by without their knowing anything about it! In 1983, the practice was purchased by Colin Shephard and he worked hard to build the excellent reputation that we strive to maintain. Martin joined the practice fresh from dental school in 1991 and in June 1998, took over the running of the practice from Mr Shephard, enabling him to spend more time enjoying the fruits of his labours. In February 1999, Mr Shephard was forced to retire as a result of ill-health and for five years, the practice was run single-handed.
In January 2004, Mrs Kim Jones joined the practice to help spread the load in providing quality private dental care for the patients. Mrs Jones left the practice in 2010 to take up an academic post with the William Beatty dental training facility at the University of Portsmouth. Her place was taken by Mr Naresh Hirani who maitains the standard of excellence to which patients have become accustomed.
The practice has been in the throes of extensive refurbishment over the last few years and we now have newly-equipped surgeries and reception area, double-glazing, central heating and air conditioning, all of which help to make your visit as comfortable as possible. The practice is a single-storey building and wheelchair access is available to all surgeries. Unfortunately, we do not have disabled toilet facilities. The practice has a small contract with SE Hants PCT to provide NHS treatment. This contract is fulfilled by our child patients and we are not currently able to offer NHS care to adult patients.
“It's always nice to see the same faces when you come to the dentist. You know you're being looked after by a team”
